A pixel is the smallest element of a digital image or raster graphic that can be displayed or manipulated. A pixel is defined by its location and color.

The term “pixel” is derived from the words “picture element”. Pixels are arranged in a grid to create an image. The number of pixels in an image is called the resolution. A higher resolution image has more pixels, which means that it can display more detail.

Pixels are typically represented as a number of bits. A pixel with 8 bits can store 256 colors, while a pixel with 24 bits can store over 16 million colors. The number of bits used to represent a pixel is called the color depth.

The color of a pixel is determined by its red, green, and blue (RGB) values. Each value can range from 0 to 255. A value of 0 represents no color, while a value of 255 represents the maximum amount of color.

Pixels are used to create images on computer screens, televisions, and other devices. They are also used to create images in computer graphics software.

Additional details about pixels:

Overview
