Skeleton Component

Last Updated: November 8, 20240.9 min read

Description

The Skeletal Component defines a skeletal structure that serves as the foundation for animating 3D characters and models. It links a 3D mesh to a hierarchical skeleton, which consists of bones that can be manipulated to animate different parts of the character. The skeletal component controls animations like walking, jumping, and other complex movements by transforming the bones.

Usage

The skeletal component is typically used to animate characters, animals, and any other models with jointed structures that require realistic movement. By creating a rigged skeleton, animators can define animations that blend and transition smoothly, allowing for lifelike character interactions and motions.

Key Properties

  • Mesh: The 3D model associated with the skeleton, such as a character or creature mesh.
  • Animation Clip: Specifies the animation sequence to be played, such as “walk,” “run,” or “attack.”
  • Blend Mode: Controls how multiple animations blend together, allowing for smooth transitions between actions.
  • Looping: Determines whether the animation plays continuously in a loop or stops after completing.
  • Playback Speed: Adjusts the speed of the animation, enabling faster or slower motion as needed for specific actions.
