Let There Be Light! Remixing Our Own Games
Are you interested in making games but don't have any coding or design experience? If so, you're in luck! Sceneri is a game creation platform that allows anyone to make games quickly and easily. In this blog post, we'll show you how to create and remix full games in 1 hour using Sceneri.
The Sceneri team recently participated in one of our now-regular internal mini Game Jams, where we have to create a game in 1 hour. The theme of last week’s Game Jam was “Remix!”, and we were tasked with remixing only games created by our colleagues in the previous Game Jam. There were so many ideas to explore from existing games that we had to see how everyone interpreted each other’s original projects, resulting in our most colorful games to date!
Here are some of the results in just 1 hour:
- Ex Explore is a teleporter puzzle game set in a science fiction world. The player must use teleporters to navigate through a series of levels and reach the end goal. It was based off Exploring Space, which is a platformer with moving obstacles, and it’s a great showcase on how to change the gameplay of a game by adding a few elements.
What’s even going on here?
- Even Harder Skyscrapers is a challenging racing game where the player must navigate through a series of skyscrapers. The original Skyscrapers came from one developer’s philosophy of “Dark Souls or nothing”, even for racing! Somehow, we made it worse. Rumors say only one person on the team has managed to beat it.

- Platform Drop is a super colorful “the floor is lava” game where the player must help Fernando the flamingo cross a series of falling platforms. Here we are showcasing how adding weight on a platform makes it drop, so players need to keep moving to avoid falling into the lava below!
- Cityscape is based on CYBERTOWER, an unfinished project from the previous Game Jam. In this platformer, players must reach the end goal, which is on the top of a skyscraper. The game combines many pre-made city assets to create tall towers and obstacles, giving it a different feel by taking advantage of verticality in game design.

How to Create a Game in 1 Hour
- Start by brainstorming for ideas. What kind of game do you want to make? What kind of experience do you want players to have?
- Once you have an idea, quickly sketch out a design. This doesn’t need to be a detailed design, just enough to give you a rough idea of how the game will work.
- Open Sceneri and start creating your game. Use the Sceneri assets and tools to quickly put together your game. A great starting point would be the Onboarding level, with simple assets and almost a blank slate for creation!
- Once your game is complete, play it and publish. Let the community enjoy playing it as much as you liked making it.
How to Remix a Game in 1 Hour
If you want to create a new game in 1 hour but don’t have an idea, you can remix an existing game from our sample projects or the many community-created games. This means taking an existing game and changing it to create something new. To remix a game in Sceneri:
- Find a game that you want to remix.
- Open the game in Sceneri and start making changes. You can change or customise the assets, the gameplay, or anything else you want.
- Once you’re happy with your changes, save the game and go play it!
Tips for Creating and Remixing Games in 1 Hour
- Start with a simple idea. Don’t try to create a complex game in just 1 hour. Start with a simple idea that you can execute on quickly. Why not add teleporters or moving platforms to an existing game you like?
- Use the Sceneri assets and tools. Sceneri comes with a library of pre-made assets and tools that you can use to quickly create your game.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment. The best way to learn how to use Sceneri is to experiment. Try different things and see what works best for you.
- Have fun! Making your own games can be really fun. If you’re starting, don’t take it too seriously and just enjoy the process of letting your imagination run free.
Sceneri is a great tool for game jams because it allows you to quickly prototype and iterate on your ideas. This means you can quickly try out different ideas and see what works best. If you’re interested in participating in a game jam, we highly recommend using Sceneri. It’s a great way to learn new skills, meet new people, and make great games!
